Who is the course for: This course is particularly designed for native and near-native speakers of English who: * have little or no teaching experience are already in the teaching profession but would like a refresher course * would like to learn about up-to-date methods in the teaching of English are thinking of becoming an English language teacher and would like a 'taster' * would like an introductory course as a stepping-stone to a higher professional qualification such as the University of Cambridge CELTA Eligibility: Minimum age 20 with a good academic background (college, University) and a high level of spoken and written English (equivalent to University level, CAE, CPE, IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 600). Location: The course takes place in the beautiful medieval city of York in the north of England with easy access from London by train. York is a top tourist attraction for visitors from all over the world. It has a magnificent cathedral, museums, art galleries, cinemas, theatres, shops, cafes, restaurants and a superb riverside location. Course information: The course director is a fully qualified English language professional with a wide experience of training in schools, companies and organisations both in the UK and worldwide. Group sizes are small (5-12 participants). This allows each participant maximum support and attention from the tutor. It also helps create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The training centre is situated close to the city centre and includes a fully equipped classroom, use of audio-visual aids, computer and internet access, teaching materials and resources. Course description: This is a 60-hour course spread over 2 weeks, Monday to Friday. In the morning, there are input sessions on the skills and methods of teaching. The afternoon consists of teaching practice (peer teaching), lesson observation and lesson preparation. Areas covered include: - different methods in language teaching - classroom management - lesson planning - teaching the four skills : reading, writing, speaking and listening - teaching grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation the use of materials and resources help and advice on finding a teaching job in your country or abroad.
Highlights:
Each participant does a minimum of 3 hours teaching practice and 3 hours lesson observation throughout the course. In addition to the 60 course hours participants will need to spend individual study time on lesson preparation for their teaching practice sessions.
