English: Certificate in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) in Cape Town
South Africa
Length of Position: 2 week course
Description:
We offer an internationally recognised Certificate in TEFL in Cape Town and other centres throughout South Africa. We have trained TEFL teachers on an ongoing basis for 16 years and are well established in the TEFL Training field. Our course is designed to develop the skills required to be a TEFL teacher and to make you aware of your own language and the difficulty faced by those who seek to learn it. Educational, psychological and linguistic theory is reviewed where relevant but the focus is more practical than theoretical; after all, it is not the knowledge we are after but the skill. Acceptance on our course is not automatic. We do require that all applicants have English first language proficiency and tertiary education or work experience. Accent and use of English is very important if you wish to compete in an international TEFL environment. Our costs are reasonable and include the course itself, the manual, certification and any observation and teaching practice at our school. The theoretical component of our course is for a period of one week: Two Saturdays 9 am-4 pm and Monday to Friday 6-10.30 pm thereafter. Observation and teaching practice would take place over two weeks, depending on the person's training and background. Our out-of-town courses may differ, depending on the needs in a specific area.
Highlights:
The School The Cape Town School of English is a Language school specialising in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL). We have been in operation since 1991 and accept students from all over the world for English studies. Our students register to do short (2 weeks) or long (six months to 1 year) courses. They come from all parts of the world but mainly from Europe, Africa and the Far East. We are situated outside of the city centre where it is safe for our students and where accommodation is readily available. Our premises are situated in an office building with 5 classrooms, a main office/reception area, a kitchen and staff room. Our classrooms are of varying sizes. In the classrooms we have whiteboards, desks, CD/tape recorders, TV and video facilities. The Students Our school is for adult learners who wish to improve or learn English, at all levels. It is not to be compared to a regular school, College or University. On occasion we do accept younger students as well. We issue a letter of attendance with the level of English achieved but no National Education Certificate. Although we do the preparation tests for Cambridge and TOEFL, these exams are run by the British Council and the American Embassy respectively. We do assist students in the registration of either examination.
