Description: The program is taught over one semester and consists of three courses linked to teaching practice (totalling approximately 6 class hours a week:

Language: This course provides the tools for describing and analyzing English. It covers the fundamentals of English grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, together with the structure of talk and written texts. The course addresses geographical, social and stylistic variation in English, and the status of English as a global auxiliary language.

Methodology: This course provides an introduction to contemporary approaches to teaching speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary.   Attention is also given to evaluating, using, creating and supplementing teaching materials.

Classroom interaction: This course focuses on basic teaching practices and techniques, with an emphasis on the classroom environment. The course covers the essentials of classroom management, classroom ethics, lesson planning, teacher reflection, and the teacher-student relationship. It also incorporates a teaching practice component.

Qualifications: The Certificate in TESOL is a program designed for graduates who are proficient in English and want to begin a teaching career. It is taught entirely in English, and provides the basic training for teaching English as a non-native language.
