Length of Position: 4 weeks, 160 hours
Description:
Costa Rica TEFL has highly qualified and enthusiastic instructors who have taught English in the US and around the globe. The core instructors all have master's degrees in TESOL (Teaching English as a Second or other Language) or Education with more than 10 years of professional teaching experience. The instructors use a hands-on approach with fun, dynamic activities. This gives you the chance to experience and try out new strategies and techniques in a supportive learning atmosphere, while gaining both skills and confidence as a new teacher. The TEFL certificate allows you to teach English anywhere in the world and consists of 160 hours of training and 6-8 hours of practice teaching with local EFL students. Experienced trainers will prepare you to be a creative and effective English Language teacher. Trainees will participate in interactive workshops, stimulating discussion and classroom observations. Participants will present their own lesson plans, utilize knowledge from the courses, adapt to teaching challenges on-the-spot and obtain personal and immediate feedback. Trainees will also peer-teach, learn from guest speakers and practice teaching. Participants will also have the opportunity to apply for a teaching position at Intercultura and other Costa Rican schools after successful completion of the course.
Highlights:
The teacher trainers use a variety of teaching techniques in the TEFL classroom and customize additional workshops to fit trainees specific needs. Trainees are given prep-time and aid in lesson planning as well as feedback pre and post observations. Trainees also team-teach, observe each other and give peer feedback. This gives trainees the chance to experience and try out new strategies and techniques in a supportive learning atmosphere, while gaining skills and confidence as a new teacher. The course consists of 160 hours of training and includes 6-8 hours of practice teaching with local EFL students as well as 5 hours of foreign language classes, allowing teachers to gain an understanding of the teaching and learning process. Trainees will be given job placement assistance and can participate in on-sight interviews with Intercultura and other local language schools. Teachers will also complete a portfolio of their work throughout the course, which will be used in their future classrooms and as a tool during job interviews.
