TESL and TESOL Teacher Training
Canada
Length of Position: TESL 4 and 10 weeks TESOL 10 weeks
Description:
TESL Diploma: This program is meant for native or proficient English speakers who wish to teach English in Canada or overseas. The program is recognized by TESL Canada and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. The course is 100 hours in class with an additional 10 hours of ESL classroom observation and 10 hours of ESL classroom teaching. All components of the program are completed and arranged by International House Toronto. Class sizes are a maximum of 10 students to assure that each student is able to receive personal attention from the instructor and practicum observers. The course balances the theoretical learning and the practical learning to assure that all students have a solid foundation of teaching English both as a second and as a foreign language. The 4 week program is very intense, so we also offer a 10 week part time program for those who have other commitments or who would rather take more time to absorb the material. Full time schedule is Monday to Friday from 9am to 3:15pm. Part time schedule is 6pm to 9:30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. After graduation, students have full assistance with finding employment both locally and overseas, creating their resumes and all other questions they may have. This assistance is given on an ongoing basis and does not expire! TESOL/TKT Program: This program is designed for non native speakers who wish to teach in their home country, or Canadians who wish to teach only overseas. This program also balances theoretical and practical aspects, while helping to improve knowledge of the English language and language skills. The program is 200 hours including observation and practicum. The TESOL program also prepares students to take the Teacher Knowledge Test through the University of Cambridge. TKT exams are written at International House. The program also has a small class size to assure that all students are personally assisted throughout the program. The TESOL TKT program will give students a TESOL Diploma and a TKT score from Cambridge University. The program runs Monday to Friday from 9am to 1:45pm Mondays to Fridays for 10 weeks. Full assistance is given to help students find employment after completion of the program.
